I’m not sure how or when it happens, but at some point in
our faith journey the enemy of our soul sneaks in and gives us a shot of
Novocain in our faith muscle. (Forgive
the dentist metaphor, I went there yesterday and it’s fresh on my mind.)
But the truth is frightfully true! No, I wouldn’t want dental work done without
Novocain, but it does wear off quickly, unlike the devilish kind. Here’s the problem-- when our faith muscle is
injected, it goes limp. Then there is no chance of flexing that muscle in
prayer, less alone launching audacious, fanatical, or earth shaking prayer.
Mark Batterson, the one who brought us The Circle Maker, says it like this:
“God
couldn’t care less about protocol. If He
did, Jesus would have chosen the Pharisees as His disciples. But that isn’t who Jesus honored.Jesus honored the prostitute who crashed a
party at a Pharisee’s home to anoint His feet.Jesus honored the tax collector who climbed a tree in his three-piece
suit just to get a glimpse of Him.Jesus
honored the four friends who cut in line and cut a hole in someone’s ceiling to
help their friend.” The common denominator
in each of these stories is crazy faith.
People took desperate measures to get to God, and God honored them for
it.”
Here’s a verse to hang your confidence on. Jesus commented on a woman who had been
unjustly treated by an evil judge. Her
persistence caused the judge to say of her protocol; “This woman is driving me crazy” (Luke 18:5 NLT).
Like Honie the Circle Maker, this woman’s unorthodox
actions didn’t land her in jail, but drove the judge to vindication. She refused the Novocain of waiting for her
day in court and got justice.
There are situations in my life right now where I must
confess I want the Novocain to wear off so I can follow her example. I want and need to pray with Crazy
Faith!
If you haven’t drawn your circle, get a piece of chalk
and get with it. You don’t have to stay
in the circle physically but you must visit it daily and when you do pray…be
unorthodox and never again let protocol keep you from exerting Crazy Faith!
I’ll meet you at the Throne,
Pastor George
