Understanding the Intangible
Not a day goes by where we don’t use our five
senses. The truth is everything we do
while we’re awake involves our sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing!
When you become a follower of Jesus Christ, you are given
a sixth sense.
We are so familiar with the five we use that having a sixth
one almost sounds freakish. When I was
in high school, I dated a girl whose mother had six fingers on one hand. It wasn’t freakish because she would never
allow anyone to see it--she always had a white hankie in her hand that hid the
embarrassing appendage.
Having a sixth sense sounds strange, but let me suggest
there are some things that cannot be perceived with the five senses! That’s why we need the sixth. Know what it is yet?
Let me keep you in a bit of suspense for a little
longer. If you aren’t sure of what the
sixth sense is then maybe you are just like Jacob who slept soundly but dreamed
vividly. He saw angels ascending and
descending a giant ladder that reached into heaven.
When he awakened he realized this was no ordinary night
of sleep. God had appeared to him. His
response is often our response when God is very much at work but we don’t use
our sixth sense to recognize it.
Jacob says; “Surely
the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” (Gen. 28:16)
Ever had that realization? It may be that you’ve had more of them than
you might realize. It’s hard to perceive when you’re not using your sixth
sense.
OK, it’s time to reveal the mystery of the Sixth
Sense…it’s the Holy Spirit of course.
Now it makes sense, right?
Here are two things worth pondering:
There are some things in your life that simple deductive reasoning will never resolve.
There are some things in your life that simple deductive reasoning will never resolve.
There will be life lessons that cannot be learned by human
logic.
Please remember, the Holy Spirit was sent for several
purposes and one was to compensate for our human sensory limitations. He gives
us an edge as our indwelling empowerment.
The Spirit assures that we will have extrasensory perception, i.e.: spirit
vision and the ability to hear inaudible sounds.
Now back to Jacob for a moment. We too must come to a place where we
recognize “The Lord is in this place” at
all times! When our spiritual eyes
and ears are opened, we will start to see and hear God everywhere we are.
While in your prayer circle today, please ponder 2 Kings6:8-23 . His eyes weren’t good enough for
the situation and then the prophet prayed; “O
Lord, open his eyes so he may see.”
You read the rest of that passage and pray for your own
revelation!
I’ll meet you at the Throne,
Pastor George
