I will be perfectly honest; prayer is
mechanical for most people. We’ve got
our own prayer positions, places, protocols, and priorities. We are quick to put our spiritual disciplines
on automatic settings and our spiritual lives on cruise control.
But take it from an unqualified mechanic, that
kind of praying hasn’t worked nor will it ever work. Prayer isn’t mechanical, it is spontaneous;
it isn’t involuntary, but instinctive.
Prayer to a follower of Jesus should be like breathing…effortless.
Where have we missed it? That’s a good question I’m not sure I have
the answer for but I do see something that just might help us today.
King David wrote this in Psalm 37:4; “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you
your heart’s desires.”
Now note the word, ‘give.’ So what’s the meaning? Webster defines give as “to offer as a
present, to hand over, to pay as a price, to supply.” But that’s Webster. The Hebrew word for ‘give’ means something
entirely different. David understood the
word in his culture and language to mean “to conceive.”
Another way to look at this verse is when you
press into God’s presence, what’s unnecessary and unholy will die and what is
necessary and holy from our God will be birthed in you.
God wants to impregnate His holy plans in you
and birth them through you! Prayer is
the delivery room and the Holy Spirit is the midwife.
And to all the men reading this, don’t discount
this as just for females; spiritually, you can get pregnant too!
I’ll meet you at the throne,
Pastor George
